The five prayers (salah) are integral to Muslims’ daily routine. Prayer in Islam is not a ceremonial act but an expression of submission to Allah and acknowledgment of His sovereignty.
“And establish prayer and give zakah and bow with those who bow [in worship and obedience]” – (Al Baqarah 43)
It is often referred to as “salah” or “‘ibadah” (worship). Salah in Islam is congregational prayer, which makes the role of the Imam (prayer leader) crucial. He helps to ensure that the prayer is performed correctly and with proper etiquette.
Hanzala al-Asaydi reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever guards the five prayers, their ablution, their timing, their bowing, and their prostration, and knowing they are the right of Allah over him, then Allah will forbid him from entering Hellfire.”
(Musnad Aḥmad 17882)
