The Adhan is a call to Muslims to come to prayer, but it is also a declaration of faith. At the Academy, muadhdhins learn how to recite the Adhan in various patterns for each of the five daily prayers.

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “If the people knew the reward for pronouncing the Adhan and for standing in the first row (in congregational prayers) and found no other way to get that except by drawing lots they would draw lots…”

(Sahih al-Bukhari 615 Book 10, Hadith 13)

Muadhdhins learn to recite the Adhan in a pattern that includes taking a breath after each phrase and repeating specific phrases multiple times. The art of Adhan is in its simplicity and beauty. The words are few, but their meaning is excellent and profound. The students are also instructed on the importance of their role as societal leaders. They learn that it is their responsibility to ensure that the community is informed of upcoming prayer times and to lead the call to prayer. The muadhdhins also learn the etiquette of Adhan, such as how to dress and stand while reciting the call.
